Yarlalu Thomas is a Nyangumarta Pitjikarli man, originally from Warralong, southeast of Port Hedland. He is a current medical student at the University of Western Australia (WA) and is working as a Precision Public Health Fellow in rare and genetic diseases supported through the Roy Hill Community Foundation. From this work, he became the WA state recipient at the Young Australian of the Year Awards in 2020.
